In Explora Cusco, hiking instead of climbing is our specialty. Foot exploration is our passion, adventure is our life force, and the Andes are our home. Led by three passionate explorers: Nirmal ‘Nimsdai’ Purja, MBE, Mingma David Sherpa, and Mingma Tenzi Sherpa. We exist to help others learn from our experiences and share the love for the trails that inspire us every day.
Forged in the mountains, among the mountains
Explora Cusco specializes in providing personalized guided experiences in the highest mountains of the Cusco region. We are here to help you follow in our footsteps in some of the most challenging terrains of this land.
Each of our company directors, Juan, María, and Alejandro, has set records in the region for their feats. All three were part of the first team to reach the summit of Salkantay in winter, in January 2021. Explora Cusco emerged from their enduring hiking partnership, a friendship forged by record-breaking feats in some of the region’s most unforgiving environments.
But Explora Cusco is not just a company created by world-class hikers; it’s a company created by world-class Peruvian hikers. Our heritage provides us with a unique perspective of the mountains, combining the desire to conquer summits with an ancient and ancestral respect for them.
The mountains of Cusco are our workplace, but they are also home to many of our friends and families. We believe these mountains should be open to all but preserved for everyone to enjoy.
Overcoming Cultural Divisions
Our origin gives us the ability to bridge the gap between Western hiking cultures and that of Cusco, harnessing the best of both. We have extensive operational experience in all major mountain ranges in the region and can assemble proven and reliable elite teams anywhere in Cusco. But we have a particular advantage when it comes to operating in Cusco. An intimate knowledge of how things work on the ground helps ensure that everything runs like clockwork when you find yourself at 5,000 meters in the mountain zone.
