Tour details
We will pick you up from your hotel at 5 am and head south of the city of Cusco for 2 and a half hours. Upon arriving at the Tinki community, our collaborators from this community will prepare breakfast to start the trek on a good note. After breakfast, our guide will give us instructions for the first stretch of the day. The hike will be approximately 3 to 4 hours, starting with a gentle level of walking, mostly on flat terrain. We will be reaching the Upis campsite around midday or 1 pm, and our collaborators will have our lunch ready. Camping will be at Upis, and in the afternoon, we have the option to visit the thermal pools in this community, which have a cost of 10 soles. We hope for a starry sky for our dinner in this community.
For this day, we will wake up at 6:00 am, prepare all our equipment, and then have a good breakfast as the day will be long with an ascent to the Arapa Pass (4950 meters above sea level). In this place, with luck, we may observe vicuñas and alpacas in their natural habitat. Gradually, we will descend and have our lunch amidst this mountain range. After a short rest, we continue our exploration to reach our campsite at the foothills of Ausangate and its Pucacocha Lake. We will enjoy a cool breeze from the snow-capped mountain and an incredible landscape with the lakes. Our dinner will be in this location.
This will be the most challenging day. After breakfast, our guide will provide tips for the ascent, as we will reach an altitude of 5100 meters above sea level at the Pucacocha Pass. At this point, some may marvel at how small we are in the vastness of the mountains in the universe! Well, we are, and you will have a charming view of the Vilcanota mountain range with its snow-capped peaks. After this beautiful connection, we will descend through a small valley, where our collaborators will be waiting with lunch ready. After resting and stretching our legs a bit, we continue. The campsite will be in the Ananta community. Before dinner, we will have tea time to enjoy the scenery, and our cooks will surprise us with a special dinner.
The day of colors has arrived. We will wake up early to have breakfast and head towards the Rainbow Mountain Vinicunca. Going through this route, we will have the privilege of having the Rainbow Mountain all to ourselves, enjoying it in its full silence, surrounded by a red valley formed over millions of years. After our visit with the guide, we will descend to the place where our transportation is located to return to the city of Cusco.
